Forum Meeting 15th April,2010

The Forum held its 34th meeting on 15th April at the ILE headquarters in Rugby.

Eight organisations were represented with one Associate Member present.
Although minutes of Forum meetings are not publically available without membership the following points were raised:

  • A productive meeting had taken place with ADEPT, previously CSS, on the 23rd March discuss the latest draft of the Notes for Guidance on the Specification of Street Lighting Columns.
  • New membership certificates were circulated. These certificates are for one calendar year only and expire in April of the following year.
  • A meeting had been held with the Highways Agency on 18th February on alternative painting schemes for new lighting columns at works. The Forum will be submitting detailed proposals.
  • Another meeting with the Highways Agency had taken place on the 12th February to discuss difficulties of interpretation over certification against NHSS 6 for companies outside the UK. Action on both sides was agreed with the intention of being able to finalise the issue at a meeting in July.
  • There was an update on progress of the review of EN 40 and the working groups.
  • Passive Safety for lighting columns was discussed to ensure that the Forum was in a position to provide expertise for these products.
  • A calling notice was being prepared for the working group reviewing TR7 on High Mast Lighting under the leadership of David Lodge of CU Phosco Lighting.
  • The fatal accident in Hounslow caused by a falling lighting column was discussed with concern and the Secretary was asked to offer any support needed to the H&SE.
