Forum Meeting 15th July,2010

The Forum held its 35th meeting on 15th July at the ILE headquarters in Rugby.

Ten organisations were represented with two Associate Members present.
Although minutes of Forum meetings are not publically available without membership the following points were raised:

  • Another very productive meeting had taken place with ADEPT, previously CSS, on the 1st June to finalise the draft of the Notes for Guidance on the Specification of Street Lighting Columns.
  • On Highways Agency issues it was noted that Series 1900 of the Specification for Highway Works was due for a limited update at the end of 2010 and Series 1300 was scheduled for an update in 2011.
Work on painting schemes revue for lighting columns continues.
  • After much debate a solution was found to the wording of the revised NHSS 6 document and it was hoped that this would be available in the near future.
In addition the ICATS guidance on training schemes for painting had become available in draft form enabling the working group to progress with their work that would eventually lead to individual companies setting up their own training schemes.
  • There was a general update on progress of the review of EN 40 and the working groups. There had not been a plenary meeting but working group meetings were proposed for October.
  • Work on building the web page on Passive Safety for lighting columns continues. It is not yet available to the public but the intention is to go live as soon as possible.
  • The TR7 Review Group on High Mast Lighting is about to start work under the leadership of David Lodge of CU Phosco Lighting with Clive Lane as secretary.
  • The fatal accident in Hounslow caused by a falling lighting column was being investigated by the police, but there had been useful contact with both the police and the H&SE. The final report is awaited with interest.
